WINDSOR, England (AP) — Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan of New Zealand added Olympic gold to their two world titles by winning the men’s double sculls at Dorney Lake on Thursday.

Cohen and Sullivan, who broke the Olympic-best time in the heats, won in 6 minutes, 31.67 seconds. Italy was a half length behind in second place out in Lane 6 and Slovenia took the bronze.

It was New Zealand’s first gold of the London Games.

The race was without the defending champions from Australia, David Crawshay and Scott Brennan, and also the favored German crew of Hans Gruhne and Stephan Kruger. Both boats were eliminated in the semifinals.
