HOUSTON (AP) — Midfielder Ricardo Clark is returning to Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo.

Clark and the Dynamo finalized a deal Thursday, a move that followed his release from Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt on July 17.

Clark played for the Dynamo from 2006-09, then signed with the German club in January 2010. He played just 15 league games and three German Cup matches for Frankfurt and was loaned to Norway’s Stabaek in February. He played 12 league matches and also had one goal in two cup appearances.

Houston said Clark won’t be added to the roster under defender Geoff Cameron finalizes his transfer to England’s Stoke.

Clark has been criticized by many American fans since he was stripped of the ball at the 2010 World Cup, leading to a goal by Ghana as the U.S. was eliminated in the second round. Clark scored on a stoppage-time header to give the Americans a 1-0 exhibition win over Venezuela in January.
