Try this: Whole lot of art

Art in the Heart, Vancouver’s annual festival of the arts, will feature dozens of local artists selling and displaying their work along downtown sidewalks, with live music and artist demonstrations throughout the event. Participating galleries will be hosting their own individual events and exhibitions. Those include North Bank Artist Gallery’s annual juried “Strands” exhibition, with more than 50 entries from local and national fiber artists. Visitors can also check out”A Gallerie Temporaire,” created by the Vancouver Art Connection, offering a diverse display of art and activities at this temporary art gallery.

Camas will also be hosting an arts festival, as fiber artists and quilters from all over Clark County will display their works for the Camas Quilt and Fiber Arts Festival. Visitors can participate in classes for any skill level, watch beading demonstrations, visit vendors, or take part in a “yarn-in” and charity projects.

The art festivals are one of many options for getting out and about this weekend. Others include a music festival and the opening of the county fair.

2. Classics shine on the lawn

Set along Officers Row, the Columbia River Concours d’Elegance showcases the best of classic cars. All makes and models prior to 1974 will be on display, as they’re judged for their historical accuracy, elegance and style. There will also be a Period Dress contest, as participants dress to match the era of their cars and attendees vote for their favorite.

3. Discover local music

CouvFest NW is a free music festival featuring just local talent, with musical sets by Tyler Morgan, The Commons, Fat Sasquatch, Soapmakers, Dogs & Beer, Jozi Bentley, In Public View, Outer Space Heaters, Travis Petersen Band, the Sindicate and Rag & Ribbons.

4. Country, motocross and knights open fair

The 144th Clark County Fair gets going this weekend with old and new favorites. Weekend entertainment highlights include the Moto X (Big Air Bikes) show at 2 and 6:30 p.m. today and Medieval Jousting at 2 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Both shows are at the Grandstand and they are included in fair admission. Visitors can explore a Wild West town, circus acts, 4-H displays, carnival rides, animal showcases and Dock Dogs competition. Two summer concerts will take place at the Sleep Country Amphitheater, with Creed performing at 7:30 p.m. tonight and the free Texaco Country Showdown music competition at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for the Creed concert are $25-$55, and include free admission to the fair, while admission to the Texaco Country Showdown is free.

5. Dreams become dangerous in ‘Total Recall’

In the future where superpowers Euromerica and New Shanghai struggle for control, Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell) is a frustrated factory worker suffering from nightmares. He decides to visit Rekall, a corporation that implants artificial memories in its clients. But when the procedure goes wrong, Quaid finds himself on the run from the police, with suspicions that he may be a spy. He just needs to find out which side of the fight he’s on. “Total Recall” is rated PG-13.
