Youth ball: Columbia beats Nevada 16-4

Scoring 15 runs over the final three innings on Thursday, Columbia Little League beat Carson City, Nevada, 16-4. It was the second game for the host team at the Junior League Baseball Western Regional at Propstra Stadium.

Columbia has one win and one loss in pool play. The host team plays again at 7 p.m. on Friday against the Montana champions from the Missoula area.

The tournament for players ages 13-14 sends its champion to the Junior League World Series in Taylor Michigan. Pool play continues through the weekend. The champiionship game is on Wednesday.

A 10-run seventh inning broke open Thursday’s game for the host team.

In other games Thursday:

— Rocklin Little League of Northern California scored single runs in each of the last two innings for a 5-4 victory over Yuma Little League of Arizona.

— Manhattan Beach Little League of Southern California scored 14 runs on seven hits and five errors for a 14-0 victory over Montana team Lolo Peak/Mullan Trail/MT Jumbo East.

— Cedar National Little League of Utah put up a pair of six-run innings in a 17-12 win over Gastineau Channel Little League of Alaska.

Babe Ruth

There was no report from the Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth 13-15 Regional baseball tournament in Kelso .KWRL, the combined team of Kalama-Woodland-Ridgefield-La Center, played Mudcats on Thursday.The top two teams from each pool after Friday play in Saturday’s semifinals with the championship Saturday evening.

The tournament champion advances to the Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series at Van Buren, Ark.
