PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills safety George Wilson’s eyes light up when reminded of the time coach Chan Gailey asserted himself in the face of hecklers at the close of his first training camp two years ago.
For a hard-luck team searching for direction and identity, Gailey’s message was welcome. He informed the hecklers that if they “dog” one player, they dog all of them.
It makes no difference to Wilson that the target of the hecklers, former starting quarterback Trent Edwards, is long gone.
Gailey’s comments still resonate to Wilson and Bills veterans two years later as the team prepares to close training camp in suburban Rochester. No longer regarded as pushovers, the Bills are confident they’re capable of taking the next step in transforming themselves into winners this season.
