Alpha made 5-2 favorite for Travers Stakes at Spa

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Alpha has been made the 5-2 morning line favorite for Saturday’s $1 million Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.

A field of 11 was entered Wednesday for the 114-mile race, which will be run without any of the top 3-year-olds from the Triple Crown trail.

Alpha ran 12th in the Kentucky Derby but won the Jim Dandy Stakes in his last start for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. The colt drew the No. 6 post and will be ridden by Ramon Dominguez.

Nonios, runner-up in the Haskell in his last start, was the 4-1 second choice, followed by Neck ‘n Neck at 9-2 and Curlin winner Street Life at 5-1.

Also entered were Liaison (8-1), Atigun (12-1), Five Sixteen (15-1), Stealcase (15-1), Golden Ticket (20-1), Fast Falcon (20-1) and Speightscity (30-1).
