NEW YORK (AP) — Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says he “fully expects” All-Stars David Wright and R.A. Dickey to be with the ballclub for the long term.

Alderson told a group of season-ticket holders a few hours before New York played the Houston Astros on Sunday he wants to deal with contracts for Dickey and Wright this offseason even though the team holds options for 2013 on each player.

A bright spot in a season that went rapidly downhill after the All-Star break in July, Dickey, the 37-year-old knuckleballer, says he would like to stay in New York but wants to see what improvements the 58-69 team makes in the offseason.

Wright has been the Mets third baseman his entire career and has expressed a desire to stay.
