Letter: Spread the taxing burden

The Columbian

Many people are taking exception to what they view as a subsidy for the wealthy. They say it will put the strain on the middle class. Are we forgetting one part of this argument?

Many lower income families, after making deductions, end up without any tax bill to pay. If you factor in credits, then you have people getting paid by the IRS in the end.

Then you have those falling into lower income brackets that are also receiving some sort of assistance, funded by taxpayers. Isn’t this putting a burden on the middle class as well?

Yes, some are making more than they need. And they take full advantage of all legal forms to reduce their tax obligation. But please, they don’t deserve to carry the onus all by themselves. The burden comes from both ends of the spectrum.
