Winterhawks sign No. 2 draft pick

The Portland Winterhawks have signed defenseman Kirill Vorobev, the team's second pick in the 2012 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Vorobev, 17, is a Russian who played two games with the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League last season before joining the New Mexico Mustangs of the North American Hockey League.
The Winterhawks play three preseason games in Everett this weekend. They face Seattle on Friday, Tri-City on Saturday and Everett on Sunday. The regular-season opener is Sept. 21 at the Rose Garden.
