Holy Cross pulls away from Sacred Heart 83-78

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Justin Burrell hit 4 of 6 3-pointers en route to a career-high 30 points and dished out a team-high five assists in Holy Cross’ 83-78 win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday night in nonconference action.

Dave Dudzinski, who entered the game leading Holy Cross (5-4) in scoring (12.4) and rebounding (8.9), finished with 19 points and Phil Beans added 18 for the Crusaders, who snapped a three-game road losing streak.

The Crusaders made eight 3-pointers and shot 64.3 percent (18 of 28) in the first half as they raced to a 46-32 lead at the break.

Sacred Heart outshot Holy Cross in the second half, 48.4 percent (15 of 31) to 40.7 percent (11 of 27), but the Crusaders hit 13 of 16 free throws in the frame to hold the Pioneers off.

Shane Gibson paced Sacred Heart (2-5) with 24 points and Louis Montes chipped in 16.
