UC Irvine rallies past Fresno State 58-51

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Chris McNealy scored 13 points, Alex Young had 12 and UC Irvine rallied in the second half for a 58-51 victory over Fresno State on Saturday night.

UC Irvine (5-6) trailed 23-19 at halftime and was behind by as many as 10. The Anteaters battled back by going on a 22-12 run capped by a pair of free throws by Daman Starring to tie it at 44 with 5:38 remaining.

After Alex Young tied it at 51 with a jumper, Starring took over, hitting a jumper and a pair of free throws to put UC Irvine out front for good.

Will Davis II scored only six points for the Anteaters, but grabbed 15 rebounds. Allen Huddleston led Fresno State (5-6) with 12 points.

Fresno State shot just 25.5 percent from the field and was 3 of 16 from the arc but did make 20 of 24 from the free-throw line and forced 18 Anteater turnovers.
