Western Michigan beats High Point 70-64

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — Nate Hutcheson scored 19 points and freshman Darius Paul posted his second double-double of the season in Western Michigan’s 70-64 win over High Point on Sunday.

Paul finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Shayne Whittington added 15 points for Western Michigan (7-3), which snapped a two-game losing streak and handed High Points its second straight loss.

Paul’s jumper with 12:05 left in the first half broke open a 10-all tie and sparked a 21-0 run for the Broncos over a 10-minute span.

John Brown’s free throws stopped the spurt with 2:28 showing on the clock but High Point (4-5) didn’t hit a field goal until the 1:10 mark.

High Point cut the deficit to 63-57 with 51 seconds left in the game but Hutcheson made five free throws down the stretch.

Brown had 20 for High Point, which forced 26 turnovers but got dominated on the boards 53-26.
