Rice defeats Chicago State 63-60 in overtime

HOUSTON (AP) — Tamir Jackson overcame a scoreless first half to pour in 22 points as Rice held off Chicago State for a 63-60 overtime victory on Wednesday night.

Austin Ramljak had 10 points and Seth Gearhart made two free throws with seven seconds left in OT for the winning margin for the Owls (3-7). Quinton Pippen had a shot to tie for the Cougars (3-10), but his 3-pointer with two seconds left missed.

Jeremy Robinson scored 15 points and Jamere Dismukes 12 for Chicago State. Matt Ross had 13 rebounds.

Jackson went 0 for 4 from the field to fail to score in the opening half for the first time this season. He started the second half with a 3-pointer and finished 7 of 16 with three makes from behind the arc.

The Cougars dominated inside, outrebounding Rice 47-23 and owning a 32-14 scoring edge in the paint.
