Garanichev, Neuner are biathlon World Cup winners

OSLO, Norway (AP) — Russia’s Evgeniy Garanichev won a 10-kilometer biathlon sprint Thursday for his first World Cup victory. Germany’s Magdalena Neuner captured the women’s event.

Garanichev shot cleanly and finished in 25 minutes, 22.2 seconds at Oslo’s Holmenkollen ski stadium. Germany’s Arnd Peiffer was 0.7 seconds behind. Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen finished third with two penalties, 11.8 seconds back.

France’s Martin Fourcade missed three shots to finish 10th but still leads the overall standings.

Earlier, Neuner won a 7.5-kilometer sprint and was the only clean shooter, finishing in 20:41.9. Dara Domracheva of Belarus and Tora Berger of Norway had one penalty each to finish second and third, 38.2 seconds and 48.9 seconds behind.
