Letter: Extreme partisanship is harmful

The politics of hate and no compromise being practiced today need to end. The Occupy and Tea Party movements have more in common than either care to admit. The bailouts, the lobby and special interest influence on both sides of the aisle make a mockery of fairness to the reeling middle class. They may differ as to the reasons that brought us here, yet common goals abound.

The airwaves are awash with hate, intolerance, fear and some pretty outrageous lies that leave fact-checkers unfazed. The repetitive chanting of hateful phrases by pundits who spew about the “liberal anything,” “socialist agenda,” and “birth certificate” remind us that someone once said there is a “sucker born every minute.” The truth is not important to those who get a nice paycheck spreading hate and fear.

The depth of despair we feel allows a manipulation of our emotions by those preaching the fire and brimstone of today’s politics. Let’s all take a deep breath and try to look at issues without the taint of extreme partisanship.
