ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — La Sombre defeated Lofty Ambition by 112 lengths to win the $70,150 Aristotle Purse for fillies and mares Friday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Martin Garcia, La Sombre ran 612 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.66 and paid $3.80, $2.60 and $2.60 as the odds-on favorite. The 5-year-old California-bred has never finished worse than second in eight career starts, while winning three.
Lofty Ambition returned $3.80 and $3.20, while There Is No Limit was another 214 lengths back in third and paid $11.60 to show.
La Sombre was scratched from last Sunday’s $100,000 Valentine Dancer Stakes in favor of running Friday.
The victory, worth $45,240, increased La Sombre’s career earnings to $179,340.
