Georgia State holds off James Madison 67-64

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Jihad Ali had 19 points and nine rebounds as Georgia State held off James Madison 67-64 on Tuesday night to sweep the season series.

The Panthers (18-9, 10-6 Colonial Athletic Association), who also defeated the Dukes 74-58 on Jan. 23, posted their third straight road victory and fourth win in five games.

Georgia State made 21 of 24 free throws, including 9 of 10 in the final 3:06.

After James Madison (11-17, 4-12) got to 65-62 with 1:05 remaining, Ali missed a jumper and Andrey Semenov rebounded for the Dukes with 32 seconds to go. The Panthers’ Devonta White was fouled on a steal, hitting two free throws for 67-62, then Eric Buckner blocked A.J. Davis’ layup with 6 seconds to go. Davis’ layup with 1 second left was the final basket.

Semenov scored 22 points and Davis 20 for James Madison, which has lost six of its last seven.
