Columbia River junior Isaiah Smith has been voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for Feb. 6-11 based on a vote of fans on Facebook.

Smith collected 67.7 percent of the 201 votes cast this week to outdistance Union girls basketball player Jessica Chatman, who had 20.4 percent.

Smith led the Chieftains to the Class 3A district championship by scoring 26 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in a victory over Mountain View. Columbia River will play Friday in the bi-district tournament for a berth to the 3A regionals.

Other candidates were Prairie swimmer Jaron Hamlik, Evergreen wrestler Matthew Nguyen and Heritage gymnast Nicole Moss.

Check back at The Columbian’s high school sports Facebook page at www.facebook.com/360preps on Sunday for next week’s athlete-of-the-week nominees. Voting begins Monday and continues through Thursday night.
