Malone named assistant coach at Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy has announced that University of Tulsa assistant coach Van Malone will join the Cowboys’ coaching staff.

Malone’s specific duties were not released. He served as a defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Tulsa in 2010 and 2011.

Malone has coached defensive backs at Texas A&M, North Texas and Western Michigan in addition to coaching special teams at North Texas and Western Michigan. He also coached receivers at North Dakota State and was on the staff of the NFL’s Detroit Lions.

He played five seasons in the NFL after being a second-round draft pick of the Lions in 1994.
