Martin, Charleston Southern defeat Wofford 77-59

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Kelvin Martin scored a career-high 27 points and added 14 rebounds to lead Charleston Southern to a 77-59 win over Wofford on Saturday night for the Buccaneers’ third straight win.

Martin made 9 of 15 field goals and 9 of 10 free throws as Charleston Southern (17-10) finished 26 of 32 from the line in the Bracket Busters game.

Jeremy Sexton added 19 points for the Buccaneers of the Big South Conference, who used a 13-3 run to break open a tie game at 9-9 and led by as many as 18 in the first half.

A Kevin Gilter jumper trimmed the deficit to eight at 51-43 with 11 minutes left, then Arlon Harper’s layup sparked a 7-0 run.

The Buccaneers maintained a cushion of at least 10 points the rest of the way.

Giltner’s 21 points led Wofford (17-12) of the Southern Conference, which ended its two-game winning streak.
