BOSTON (AP) — A Boston University hockey player accused of raping a female student has pleaded not guilty and has been ordered to have no contact with her.

Thousand Oaks, Calif., resident Max Nicastro was freed on $10,000 bail after his arraignment Tuesday in Brighton District Court.

Authorities say the junior defenseman and 2008 Detroit Red Wings draft pick sexually assaulted the woman Sunday morning.

His lawyer says no crime was committed.

Nicastro is the second BU hockey player accused of sexual assault this season. Coach Jack Parker says he’s troubled by the allegations but doesn’t think they reflect the program’s culture. Parker says players are warned every season about the dangers of alcohol abuse and sexual harassment.

Nicastro has been suspended from the team. A university spokesman said late Tuesday he’s no longer enrolled at BU.
