Canty sparks Alabama A&M over Alcorn State 81-71

NORMAL, Ala. (AP) — Casey Canty scored 21 points and Jeremy Crutcher 20 as Alabama A&M came back from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Alcorn State 81-71 Monday night.

Canty got 16 of his points in the second half, including 10 during an 18-8 run that gave the Bulldogs (5-17, 3-10 Southwestern Athletic Conference) a 72-62 lead with 2:55 remaining after the game was tied for the 10th time. There were 15 lead changes in the game.

Demarquelle Tabb added 17 points and 11 rebounds for Alabama A&M, which shot 55.6 percent (15 of 27) in the second half after making 32.1 percent (9 of 28) in the opening 20 minutes.

Twann Oakley and Anthony Nieves scored 14 points each for the Braves (8-18, 5-9). They combined to score 14 of Alcorn State’s final 18 points of the first half, when the Braves overcame a 26-19 deficit to take a 37-33 halftime lead.
