BURIEN, Wash. (AP) — The King County sheriff has been selected as the next executive director of the Washington state Criminal Justice Training Commission.

Seattlepi.com reports (http://is.gd/hqiBIc) that Sue Rahr was among four candidates for the position, which became open last year after Joe Hawe resigned.

Rahr is more than halfway through her second term as sheriff, which expires in 2013. Last year, she recruited a former Kent, Wash., police chief, Steve Strachan, to serve as a new chief deputy. Strachan is expected to be selected as her successor on an interim basis.

The Criminal Justice Training Commission oversees the state’s police training center in the south Seattle suburb of Burien, where all police officers except state troopers undergo basic training. The commission also sets statewide training standards for peace officers and administers the decertification process for officers fired for serious misconduct.
