Wash. man fatally shot by US marshals

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — Police in the northwest Washington city of Mount Vernon say a 26-year-old man has been fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with deputy U.S. marshals.

Lt. Chris Cammock tells the Skagit Valley Herald (http://is.gd/APBDsE ) that the marshals were trying to arrest the man on an assault warrant Thursday afternoon when he reportedly fired at them. Cammock says the marshals fired back, hitting the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No marshals were injured.

The man was not immediately identified.
