Gadson scores 19, Rider holds off Fairfield 65-62

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Novar Gadson scored 19 points, and made 8 of 9 from the free-throw line to lead Rider over Fairfield 65-62 Sunday.

The Broncs (13-18, 10-8 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) made 20 of 28 foul shots, while Fairfield struggled, connecting on 46.2 percent (6 of 13) from the line.

Rider led by as many as 13 midway through the second half before Fairfield used a 15-2 run to make it close.

Rakim Sanders’ layup pulled the Stags (17-13, 12-6) within one, 63-62, with 1:15 to go. However, Maurice Barrow missed both his free throws for Fairfield with 46 seconds left, and Gadson scored on a layup 18 seconds later for the final margin.

Sanders missed two 3-pointers in the final 12 seconds.

Daniel Stewart added 14 points and Jonathon Thompson 13 for the Broncs.

Fairfield was led by Ryan Olander with 17 points and Barrow with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
