A fire erupted in the garage of a home in the Northeast Hazel Dell neighborhood just before 2 p.m. Monday, but no one was reported injured.
The fire was at 9700 N.E. 25th Ave., an arterial street that connects Northeast 78th and 99th streets east of Highway 99. A portion of 25th between 96th and 99th streets was temporarily blocked by deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office while firefighters worked.
Clark County Fire District 6 and the Vancouver Fire Department were both called to the scene.
According to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, the signal on 99th Street, which has a sensor triggered by strobe lights, was affected by the fire apparatus parked on 25th, causing a traffic jam.
The home in question is a 40-year-old manufactured home. County property records indicate it is owned by Gary Davis.
Sharon Dillard, who lives across the street from the house, said she was coming home when she saw a lot of “near pitch black” smoke coming from the home.
