BURBANK, Wash. (AP) — Crews are working to clean up an oil spill on the Snake River Tuesday following a leak of about 44 gallons of oil.
The leak occurred during an operation to transfer oil in three of six cooling units Monday at Ice Harbor Lock and Dam, about 10 miles east of Pasco. The units are the likely source of an oil sheen reported in December and January.
The Army Corps of Engineers says the oil escaped during a flushing operation. Collection booms have been set up on the river to capture the oil.
The agency is investigating the incident.
