SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle police officer who had been arrested in a drug case and released from jail early Thursday is apparently the same man found shot hours later on a trail near North Bend.

Harborview Medical Center says Richard F. Nelson is in critical condition.

King County sheriff’s Sgt. Kathleen Larson says a man with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound was found on the John Wayne Trail Thursday morning and taken to Harborview.

Nelson had been released without bail from the jail in Seattle shortly before 5 a.m.

A spokesman for King County prosecutors, Dan Donohoe, says the office was aware of Nelson’s arrest.

Seattle police have not returned calls seeking comment.
