Norfolk State beats Maryland-Eastern Shore 78-72

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Pendarvis Williams and Kyle O’Quinn scored 18 points apiece to help Norfolk State pull away from Maryland-Eastern Shore 78-72 Saturday for the Spartans’ fourth straight win.

Williams shot 70 percent from the field (7 of 10) and made two of his four 3-point attempts.

Maryland-Eastern Shore led 53-51 with 8:24 left in the second half after Mark Robertson knocked down a trey. But Norfolk State (10-5, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) used an 8-0 run to take a 59-53 lead with 5:47 left.

The Hawks would get no closer than six, as the Spartans made 10 free throws in the final minute.

O’Quinn made a game-high 10 free throws and blocked six shots.

Chris McEachin scored 15 for the Spartans.

Louis Berry and Percy Woods led Maryland-Eastern Shore (3-11, 0-1) with 15 points apiece.

Norfolk State made 29 of 45 free throws compared to just 14 of 26 for Maryland-Eastern Shore.
