PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — An exhibit of Quileute (kwil-yoot) tribal artworks opens this week at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
The Peninsula Daily News reports (http://is.gd/ihOOL7 ) the exhibit is intended to debunk myths from the Twilight movie saga. It was organized by the tribe and the Seattle Art Museum, where it was on view last year.
Oral traditions say the Quileute people were transformed from a pair of wolves, but werewolves as depicted in the movies are not part of the tribal heritage.
