MILAN (AP) — Italy’s Ivan Basso has confirmed he will bid for a third Giro d’Italia title this year.
The Liquigas-Cannondale cyclist won the Giro in 2006 and 2010 but did not compete last year, preferring to focus on the Tour de France.
At the team’s presentation on Thursday, Basso called the Giro “the big aim for the first part of the season.”
Basso’s teammate Vincenzo Nibali will concentrate on the Tour but also may ride the Giro to help support Basso.
