No. 16 Louisville women hold off South Florida

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Shoni Schimmel scored 16 points and No. 16 Louisville rallied to beat South Florida 63-57 on Wednesday night.

Louisville trailed USF 47-39 with 10:17 to play following a steal by Inga Orekhova that lead to Jasmine Wynne’s layup. The Cardinals then swung the game with a 15-0 run during the next four minutes, highlighted by two three-point plays and a 25-footer from Schimmel. Shelby Harper’s loose ball rebound in the left corner and subsequent drive and layup gave the Cardinals the lead for good at 49-47 with 8:33 to play.

Down 60-57 with 33 seconds left, South Florida missed two chances to tie it, including a 3-pointer by Orekhova. Sherrone Vails’ two free throws with 15.7 seconds to play and a Harper rebound on the next possession sealed the game.

Vails had 14 points on 10-of-11 from the line to go with eight rebounds and four blocks for Louisville (14-3, 3-1 Big East).

Wynne led USF (9-8, 1-2) with 20 points and Kaneisha Saunders had 18.
