TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — New Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez has hired West Virginia’s Jeff Casteel as defensive coordinator.

Casteel will be reunited with Rodriguez, who rose to prominence as a college coach with his success at West Virginia. Casteel has been defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Mountaineers since 2003 and was co-coordinator the season before that.

Rodriguez is bringing two others from the West Virginia staff — David Lockwood as defensive backs coach and Bill Kirelawich as defensive line coach.

Rodriguez also announced the hiring of Spencer Leftwich as tight ends coach. Leftwich has been offensive line coach at Pittsburgh, whose coach, Todd Graham, left to become head coach at Arizona State.

Wednesday’s announcements completed Rodriguez’s staff in Tucson.
