Southern Illinois turns away Indiana State 73-67

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — Mamadou Seck scored 16 points Friday night to help Southern Illinois break a two-game slide with a 73-67 victory over Indiana State.

T.J. Lindsay added 13 points and Treg Setty 11 for the Salukis (6-11, 3-3 Missouri Valley).

Jake Odum led the Sycamores (11-6, 3-3) with 15 points and 12 rebounds. R.J. Mahurin scored 14, and Myles Walker and Jordan Printy added 10 points apiece.

Southern Illinois held a shooting advantage of 51 percent (26 of 51) to 41 percent (23 of 56).

The Salukis bolted to a 5-0 edge and never trailed. Their lead peaked at 39-26 on Lindsay’s 3-pointer with 2:31 left in the first half.

The Sycamores tied it three times in the second half, the last at 59 on Walker’s basket with 5:49 to go.

But baskets by Lindsay, Jeff Early and Seck put Southern Illinois safely ahead 66-60 with 2:40 left.
