OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A Washington state lawmaker wants spas to be able to serve wine and beer.

The Seattle Times reports that (http://bit.ly/xPBEWu) a measure introduced by Kent Democrat Sen. Karen Keiser would allow spas to serve a single glass of beer or wine, free of charge.

Under the bill, a day spa must offer at least three of the following services to serve alcohol: hair shampooing, cutting, styling and dyeing, manicures, pedicures, facials and massages.

She says spas would serve beer or wine only to customers who are in the spa for at least an hour. She adds spas already serve tea, so other options should be available.

A similar bill was introduced by Ritzville Republican Sen. Mark Schoesler in 2006 but didn’t pass.
