RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Phil Martin scored 13 points, including four big free throws in the final minute, and UC Riverside continued its best-ever Big West Conference start with a 60-53 win Saturday over Cal Poly.

Martin was coming off a career-high 33 points in an overtime win over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday. In this one, he was just 4 of 13 from the field but 5 of 6 from the line. Kevin Bradshaw added 11 points for the Highlanders (10-8, 4-1 Big West).

Amaurys Fermin led the Mustangs (11-7, 2-3) with 13 points. Chris Eversley added 11 and David Hanson had 10. The Mustangs shot just 34 percent (18 of 53) from the field.

Will Taylor’s free throws pulled Cal Poly within 51-48 with 1:32 left, but a Bradshaw jumper and two Martin free throws made it a seven-point game again, and the Mustangs never got within one score after that.
