Udofia leads Denver past Western Kentucky 78-65

DENVER (AP) — Chris Udofia had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Denver held Western Kentucky to 16 first-half points en route to a 78-65 victory Sunday.

Royce O’Neale added a career-high 16 points for the Pioneers (14-4, 4-1 Sun Belt), who shot 60 percent from the field and committed just 10 turnovers. Brian Stafford had 15 points and Chase Hallam 11.

T.J. Price had 12 points, Kahlil McDonald 11 and Nigel Snipes 10 for Western Kentucky (5-14, 1-5).

Denver scored the first nine points of the game en route to a 43-16 halftime lead. The Pioneers shot 65 percent in the opening period while holding the Hilltoppers to 25-percent shooting.

Western Kentucky shot 45 percent in the second half and got as close as 13 points late in the game. The 16 first-half points were a season low for the Hilltoppers, and the 49 in the second half were two shy of a season best.
