Charleston Southern beats UNC Asheville 93-88

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Arlon Harper scored a career-high 28 points as Charleston Southern upended first-place UNC Asheville 93-88 in a Big South Conference game Thursday night.

Harper and fellow freshman guard Saah Nimley led the Bucs (12-7, 6-3) to 59 percent (33 of 56) shooting from the floor and 45 percent (9 of 20) from 3-point range. Nimley finished with 20 points and nine assists.

Charleston Southern’s Kelvin Martin posted his seventh double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds and became the fourth-leading rebounder in Big South history.

UNC Asheville led 16-12 before a 25-14 run put the Bucs ahead 37-30 and they never trailed again. UNC Asheville (13-7, 8-1) tied the game 84-84 but Charleston Southern outscored the Bulldogs 7-4 over the final three minutes.

Charleston Southern matched its road win total of last season and snapped the Bulldogs’ seven-game winning streak.

J.P. Primm led the Bulldogs with 26.
