Eastern Kentucky defeats Longwood 78-71

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Jaron Jones scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half as Eastern Kentucky came back to defeat Longwood 78-71 in a nonconference game Sunday.

The senior guard scored nine points during a 13-4 run that pulled the Colonels (12-9) into a 50-50 tie. Later, he scored baskets on three consecutive possessions for a 61-56 lead with 9:39 remaining.

The Lancers (7-13) got within three points, 74-71, with 30 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Jan van der Kooij and two free throws by David Robinson. But Joshua Jones and Jeff Allgood hit two free throws apiece to secure the win for Eastern Kentucky.

The Colonels shot 60.7 percent (17 of 28) in the second half to 28.6 percent (10 of 35) for the Lancers.

Mike DiNunnon scored 14 points for Eastern Kentucky.

Tristan Carey led Longwood with 25 points and Antwan Carter scored 19.
