Lewis-McChord soldier killed in Afghanistan

JOINT BASE-LEWIS McCHORD, Wash (AP) -- A 24-year-old soldier from Joint Base-Lewis McChord has been killed in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense announced Thursday that 1st Lt. David A. Johnson, of Horicon, Wis., died Jan. 25 in Kandahar province. He was on patrol when he was struck by an improvised explosive device, authorities said.
Johnson was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry.
