GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Derrell Armstrong scored 27 points and Trevis Simpson had 24 to lead UNC Greensboro to its fifth consecutive victory, 77-73 over Appalachian State in overtime Thursday night.

Simpson scored 17 points and Armstrong 14 in the second half, when the Spartans (7-14, 5-4 Southern Conference) rallied from a nine-point deficit, 41-32 with 15:22 remaining, to lead 63-56 with 1:28 to play.

Omar Carter, who led Appalachian State with 19 points, hit five free throws in the final minute of regulation to rally the Mountaineers (8-11, 4-5) to a 64-64 tie.

The Spartans scored the first four points in overtime on free throws by Taylor Hoffer. After the Mountaineers got within a point, 72-71, with 2:57 left, Simpson answered with a jumper 21 seconds later. Armstrong made two free throws with 2 seconds left.

UNC Greensboro is 5-6 since Wes Miller took over as interim coach for Mike Dement in December.
