SEATTLE (AP) — As work progresses on a tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct in Seattle, homeless campers are being told they can no longer sleep under the viaduct because it’s being demolished.

The seattlepi.com reports (http://is.gd/VZ1cN2 ) transients are being swept Monday from a section of the viaduct near Pioneer Square.

The executive director of the Seattle-King County Coalition on Homelessness, Alison Eisenger, estimates more than 100 people sleep under and around the highway, but one city outreach worker estimates 10 to 50.

Outreach workers made three visits in the past month and contacted 11 viaduct dwellers, offering shelter and other services. Two took up the offer.
