OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A 13-year-old Thurston County boy accused of killing his father will be tried as a juvenile, not an adult.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Wayne Graham says he decided to keep the case in Thurston County Juvenile Court after reviewing the boy’s psychological examination, his background and facts about the shooting.
The Olympian reports (http://is.gd/gDk8pF ) a Juvenile Court commissioner made the decision at a hearing Monday. If convicted, the boy would likely face a shorter sentence than he would if tried as an adult.
He is charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 23 shooting of his father, 39-year-old Jimmie Asher, as he slept with his fiancee at their home at Littlerock.
