Tennessee State beats Austin Peay 77-57

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Kellen Thornton scored 15 points and Tennessee State beat Austin Peay for the second time this season, 77-57, on Monday night in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Robert Covington had 13 and Wil Peters 11 for the Tigers, who got 35 points from their bench compared to just 12 for Austin Peay.

Tennessee State (14-10, 7-4) led 15-14 before using a 12-2 run to take a 27-16 advantage and go into halftime leading 29-20.

After shooting 37.9 percent (11 of 29) in the first half, Tennessee State hit 67.9 percent (19 of 28) of their shots in the second half, when they outscored the Governors 48-37.

The Tigers also outscored Austin Peay 40-24 in the paint.

John Fraley led Austin Peay (9-15, 6-5) with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, but the Governors shot 38.8 percent (19 of 49) from the field and 2 of 14 from 3-point range.
