Vancouver drivers are enjoying lower gas prices as Independence Day weekend approaches.

The average cost per gallon dropped 12 cents in the past week to $3.53, AAA Oregon/Idaho reported Tuesday. The average price statewide decreased 12 cents per gallon to $3.64. The national average, $3.33 per gallon, is at its lowest since January. Oregon’s average, $3.61 per gallon, is at its lowest since February. Concerns about global economic growth, in part, have put downward pressure on gas prices, AAA said.

AAA said 42.3 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles during the holiday weekend, a 5 percent increase to the estimated 40.3 million travelers last year.
