Letter: Take good care of that flag

Take good care of that flag

To the person/people who stole the American flag from my front porch: Please take good care of it and honor it as I have.

I wore it proudly as a patch on my flight suit for my 27 years in the U.S. Air Force. It was emblazoned on the tail of the aircraft I flew around the world during those years. I stopped and saluted the flag every afternoon when it was lowered at the end of the duty day. I have stood at attention and saluted or held my hand over my heart, as appropriate, every time I’ve confronted the flag in my nearly 75 years as a citizen of this country and I’ll continue to do so as long as I can stand.

So, since you obviously needed the flag more than I do, all I ask is that you treat it with the same honor and respect that I have. Don’t bother to return it as I have already ordered a new one to replace it.
