Letter: Park Service vision under attack

The Columbian

Egads! What next?

The June 22 editorial, “Harmony needed at Fort,” is yet another subterfuge effort by the business community — with U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, and Elson Strahan, president of Fort Vancouver National Trust, running interference for them — to convert the Fort into yet another profit generator for the commercial aspects of our community.

What will the next incursion be? Year-round carnival booths along Officers Row? Carnival rides adjacent to the Fort?

The National Park Service can expect a future of constant battles by the private sectors to break down the original intent of providing a peaceful setting for the average citizen.
