LAS VEGAS (AP) — A field of almost 6,600 players has been whittled to 1,765 in the marquee Main Event of the 2012 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Tournament official Seth Palansky says Thursday is the first day all remaining players in the $10,000 buy-in No-Limit Texas Hold ’em World Championship will play at the same time. Officials expect the field to be cut by about half by Friday.
The current chip leader is 26-year-old Shaun Deeb. He’s from Troy, N.Y., but now lives in Las Vegas.
He’s the grandson of the oldest player this year, 92-year-old Ellen Deeb. She was eliminated Sunday.
