Local ball: Salmon Creek finishes second at state tourney

The Salmon Creek Little League 9-10-year-old all-star baseball team had its run at the state tournament in Auburn come one win short of a championship.

Federal Way captured the state title with a 7-1 win over Salmon Creek on Sunday.

The Salmon Creek team had won four consecutive loser-out games. It beat Federal Way 10-0 on Saturday to force the second championship contest.

No details were reported from Sunday’s game.

Major (11-12) baseball — Glenwood lost its opening game of the state tournament in Walla Walla, 6-1 on Saturday to South Kitsap.

The game was scoreless until South Kitsap broke through in the third and fourth innings.

Glenwood drops into the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament where it will play Centralia at 10 a.m. today.Central Vancouver, which also lost its opening game on Saturday, will face Woodinville at 12:30 p.m. today.

Babe Ruth baseball

14s state tournament — Hazel Dell Metro fell to 0-2 in pool play at Elma after a 13-6 loss Sunday to Twin Cities of Centralia-Chehalis. Hazel Dell will play Kennewick at noon today in its final pool-play game.

15s state tournament — KWRL was scheduled to play Midland on Sunday in the second of three pool play games at Castle Rock. The game result was not reported. KWRL plays Kennewick at noon today.
