Sam Houston State knocks out Rice 4-1

HOUSTON (AP) — Michael Oros allowed one run in eight solid innings, and Sam Houston State advanced to the Houston Regional championship game with a 4-1 win over Rice on Sunday.

Oros (8-1) allowed eight hits and struck out six. Matthew Burchett threw a hitless ninth for his 10th save.

Matthew Reckling (8-3) gave up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts in four innings for Rice (41-19), which was the host school and No. 1 seed in the region.

Sam Houston State (40-21) got a run in the third as Corey Toups scored on an error, and added a run in the fourth on Colt Atwood’s run-scoring single that scored John Hale to make it 2-0.

The Bearkats put the game away with a two-out, two-run single by Anthony Azar off of Tyler Duffey in the bottom of the eighth that made it 4-1.
